Master Bath Double Sink Yeah or Nay?

Building a new home and are torn between single or double sink in the Master Bathroom. I think a single sink makes sense and my hubby would like a double sink as recommended by the builder and as shown. We've never had a double sink and don't get ready together. But, is it nice to have your own sink/station?

Thoughts?

Nay. I like my me time in my bathroom and do not share well with others. One sink equals more counter space and less cleaning so a win/win in my play book!

I say Nay as well, esp if you don't get ready at the same time. With one sink, you can have more drawer space, and more counter space. So much better.

What are their reasons for wanting double sinks?

I don’t mind sharing a sink, but I do mind sharing drawer space. Can your builder give you a single sink vanity with 2 drawer stacks on either side? Also, its a personal preference, but I like 4 equal shallow drawers rather than 2 shallow and 1 deep. I put big things, like blow dryer and waterpik in square buckets under the sink.

Yes, I want a double sink. Had it in the old house, and I miss it. Now I have just moved my husband to the hall bath. The master bath with one sink is fine for just me.

With two sinks you are jammed up next to the tower. One sink is better so that you have room for sconces, which provide better lighting. Have one ceiling light.

It really is personal preference whether you want one or two sinks, but also is dependent on the space available. What is the size of the space? It looks very cramped with two sinks, but I prefer two sinks, so I would probably move the cabinet elsewhere and have both sinks and a larger counter top in that space.

We’ve always had 2 sinks in master bath & now, even in retirement when we’re not getting ready at same time, we’re still sometimes needing a sink at same time. But, I don’t care for the configuration shown. That vanity looks too short so I’d get rid of tower, extend length of vanity & add another set of drawers in the middle so each person has their own. Keep the 2 separate mirrors & absolutely get undermount sinks! Makes easier cleanup, more counterspace & a nicer look.

We just got double-sinks in our master, I'm a big fan. I love that my side is nice & neat & I have my separate under the sink storage - which is also nice & neat ;-)

Love two sinks - but ours are on separate vanities at different ends of the room so that makes a difference. Size definitely matters when deciding between two sinks and one. Your space looks tight - can you post the length of the area??? For two sinks to fit in your example, I'd probably eliminate the tower to make the vanity longer and more usable.

It depends on your lifestyle and personal preferences. I, too, like my husband's clutter down on his end. The important thing in your master bath is to have room for both of your toiletries and appliances. I don't think the length is too short; I like the extra storage in the tall cabinet for linens and other items. I have seen a bath with built in appliance garages, which I long for.

It's a yes, for me. My partner and I are getting ready to build and will have a double sink each with its own mirror with a window between in our master bath.

I skipped the double sinks and went with a single. We don't get ready at the same time, and installing one sink gave me the space I wanted for a built in hamper....which I needed more than repeated sink.

Does the sink have to be under the mirror? Could you do two mirrors and the sink in the middle? Then you would have counter space under your individual mirror for your things. (Although I am a proponent of having nothing but a soap dispenser on the countertop, having lived with 24” wide vanities for years.)

Separate bathrooms would be even better.

Think about what you use the sink for. Washing hands, brushing teeth (not the whole time), handwashing clothes (if you don’t have another place to do it), washing off makeup. It’s really not used for much. The mirror is.
