Rouge, you're probably right. My yard will never look like that, and that's fine, lol. I can enjoy this online and enjoy my own garden in real life (with a lot less work lol!)

Very attractive. I love the house, just for starters. [g] And my favorite part are the two gorgeous hydrangea, so well cared for and standing erect unlike mine after the last downpour. It's an interesting combo of formal and informal. Someone in that house really enjoys plants. I would love to live across the street from them, but even if I could hire someone and have a sprinkler system, it's more formal than I would do for myself.

I do like some formality for structure and I'd probably do more than I have now, if it weren't so much more work. but I guess I enjoy things a little wilder. I would never have a hedge, we removed one, just to eliminate all the pruning. I love boxwood, but I only have three and they are fairly slow growing and not that difficult to keep up with but they don't add enough formality and I don't want to add more. I find it so interesting that they added the cosmos by the garage. And is that palm trees and standard lantanas or something on the porch?

Again, if this home were somewhere where I could pass by it routinely, I'd try to put it on one of my regular routes to drive by. lol

PM2, I had been thinking the exact same thing - this is a bit more formal than I would have. But, like in everything else in life, I can't make a decision, so I can't honestly decide if I like a more formal garden or an informal one. I don't HAVE a formal garden because I don't have time to put the work in, but I always admire them when I see them. Perhaps if I were a woman of means I would have a gardener who would maintain one for me lol.

I do think this garden has some elements of informality - my eyes immediately spied the cosmos as well! And I like that mix.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Living across the street would be perfect lol. That way you can enjoy it (and it is truly something to be enjoyed - it's gorgeous!) but you wouldn't have to put in the work and could go in your backyard to enjoy your informal garden too!

Sometimes I wish I had enough self control to make a garden like this. Then at the same time I enjoy my drifts of self seeding yarrow and continually plant more.

While I think this garden is indeed quite beautiful a natural informal style would also complement the style of house very well.
