Miele flush only induction....?

I want a 36” non stainless framed, all black induction cooktop that I can proud mount. I love the Miele KM6375. The instructions state that it has to be flush mounted to avoid damage and the warrenty would be voided if not flush mounted

. No one, including Miele themselves, can tell me how the cooktop would even know whether it is flush or proud mounted. Miele can’t tell my how it could be damaged or why the warranty would be voided if it were proud mounted. 2 local retailers told me to ignore the flush mount requirement. The ones on display in their store are proud mounted and reps from both places stated that very few people flush mount them. Does anyone have either a KM6375 or the 30” version KM6365, proud mounted? Can anyone give me insight as to why it would need to be flush mounted or how it could be damaged doing so? The illustration below is from the instruction manual.

Obviously Miele has determined that the cooktop material is not suitable (for example, the unprotected glass edge can be damaged) for above-the-counter installation which is why it offers the otherwise-identical 6370 with a stainless steel frame to protect the cooktop, particularly its edges. It's not surprising that a store wouldn't make the effort to install the 6375 correctly when it can just cut a hole and drop in the cooktop. If you don't want the metal edge, why not consider the Bosch Benchmark NITP669UC which has its similar "Flexinduction" feature.

@wdccruise The Bosch is a great option, thanks. And I guess what you’re saying is the glass edge won’t be protected by the lip of the counter. Maybe they’re glass isn’t quite as durable as others that don’t need that extra protection. Possibly for a good reason….operation etc…?

Be sure to read the Bosch's user manual before selecting it noting that it has one digital slider that controls the power of all the elements. A competing model is the Samsung NZ36K7880UG (BB, HD, AC) -- which you can optionally install recessed -- which has a control for each element and a funky, movable knob you can use if you don't want to use the digital controls. The "virtual flame" is useful to show each element's power. My LG induction range has something similar.

Hi Terri – I'm experiencing the same issue trying to install the KM 6365 proud mounted, rather than flush mount. Which cooktop did you end up with? Was it the 30" KM 6365 or KM6375?

@sade, I ended up buying a 36" LG induction. I haven't even installed it yet however. Hubby was diagnosed with dementia. It has slowed everything down.
