We had a tornado warning yesterday. Very unusual for this area. I went outside and moved a bunch of plants down low off of benches and shelves and such. I figured at the very least it was going to get terribly windy. But nothing happened other than a really good soaking rainstorm. Thank goodness!

Wendy, I have always wanted to get an attached GH like yours. How do you like it? Do you have separate heating for it or just open the door up into the house? My problem is 1) I'm getting too old for a lot of new things and 2) if I did decide to get one it would have to be huge! I have always envisioned myself with one which contained paths, misting systems, reading areas.... you get the idea. Yours looks so nice and peaceful.

Popmama - do you get tornadoes often in your area? We never did before, but lately we've had a couple last year and maybe three this year, one of which did a lot of damage. Fortunately for me, it passed about a mile south of my location but the residual winds still took a toll on some of the local trees. Where it hit, homes lost roofs, building destroyed etc. not pretty. I'd be devastated if any of my plants were to be damaged.

SLD, hope all goes well for you with the storm. When I lived on long Island, hurricane Gloria made landfall in my town. I lived right up from the bay on the south shore. We went through the eye. The first side bent a huge tree to the south of my house, then we went through the eye, and the winds shifted 180 degrees. The tree then toppled the other way, coming right through a portion of my house. Not fun, but at least my GH, of my own design and construction survived perfectly. The entire neighborhood was without power for 7 days. The kids loved it, but us, not so much since we had well water at the time!

Thanks, Bill. At least we're not on the shore. We also have well water, but we do have a generator if (or when, lol) we lose power. The storm track has shifted a bit back and forth, so sometimes we're slightly to the west (the rainy side) of it, and sometimes we're slightly to the right (windy side) of it.

Thanks, everyone for your well wishes. The storm ended up coming on shore east of us, on the Connecticut Rhode Island border, so it just turned out to be a really rainy day with a bit of wind, but nothing bad. No trees down for us, no loss of power :-) I think it's supposed to rain tomorrow as well.

Thank God for you) I am glad it all worked out and that you can put all out again for anther month or two. I was on the east side of it and just a few knocked over plants. No rain here. Just a quick thunder shower early a.m then it was just cloudy all day with heavy mist. Crazy. Windy though.

Mike, glad you didn't have much of any damage. We didn't have much wind at all. Lots of rain, though, it's still coming down. Seems to have lightened up a bit. I think I'll be able to move plants back out tomorrow.

I'm glad you're safe and it's good your tropical storms are over quickly. Sometimes it rains for 3 weeks at a time here when one hits. I lost quite a few plants last year thanks to that

SLD, the plants love the rain. I have an Australis that's been in this rain for days / weeks now and it seems to love it since the medium is so porus it doesn't get water logged. Put'em outside!

Glad to hear you didn't get hit hard and everything worked out ok for you. I was worried about you, but moving everything inside did what it was supposed to do - divert the storm! Meteorologists are still perplexed as to why that happened, but we know now don't we? 😂

Nik, I think that we're enough north that hurricanes and tropical storms lose some of their oomph over the colder water.

Bill, They love rain, but we've just had too much of it this summer. We had a couple of inches a couple of days before this storm arrived, and everything was thoroughly soaked.

As of 6:00 p.m. it was still raining hard. I don't know if it's still raining now.

SLD - beautiful greenhouse!! Im glad you are safe. I was lucky to have never seen more than cat 2 during my time living in FL. I hope some of your rain comes our way. 88-92 here for the next week, only slight chance of rain.

We have been getting way too much rain here in Pittsburgh PA area and I am starting to worry about my agave plants outside. Sansevieria seem to love the rain this time of year. Got to watch the lows if they get below 60's which is unlikely.

Everything is back outside now.

Stush, we've had way too much rain here this summer as well. I've lost one small Hoya and a cactus. A couple of other cactus I had to take out of their pots to clean up the roots, and let the root ball and mix dry out before repotting them. I think they're going to be o.k.

Please tell me you saved the White Rhino.

Lol, This one has stayed in my greenhouse all summer, so I can keep an eye on it :-)

SLD, glad to hear the damage was minimal, but even losing so much as a leaf hurts. Sorry about the plants, but now there are two empty pots to refill!
