transplanting a lemon tree zone 9

Have a Meyer lemon tree that has been in a large container for 20+years. It's about 4+ feet tall and 3+ feet wide. Bears lemons every other year. I would like to put it in the ground-semi shaded area. 3-4 hours morning sun. Where do I start? Think it will live? Thank you!

    3-4 hours of sun is not enough, especially if it's been in full sun for 20+years. How big is that container? Any chance you could pot it up to a larger size and let it stay where it is?

    It seems to like your current location. Perhaps you could adjust your fertilizing routine to have it bear more frequently, but other than that, you seem to have a good thing going there.
