Update a beige master bathroom

I want to update my beige bathroom which has lots of tile and outdated granite. I would like to keep the floor and shower tile and update with paint (cabinets and walls), fixtures and new countertops.

The bathroom is large and functional. The bathtub and surround is being used alot as we have moved into the grandchild phase so it stays.

Thoughts?

I have thought of using porcelain sheets to lay over the tile to completely change the look but not sure if it is cost effective or even possible. Has anyone tried this?

Thxs!

IMO change the wall color and then see whatelse needs cahnging. Also before doing that cange all the bulbs to LED 4000K. Granite is never outdated and you cannot lay sheet vinyl over tiles the tiles will telgraph through and lokk even worsr tan just leaving the tile. IMo the biggest other chnge would be painting all the wood it is dark and dreary looking .

You have amazing storage in that bathroom. If you paint the cabinetry, that will change everything immediately. Post a lighter, closer photo of the floor. You can probably get a pre-fab new countertop, but 5e color of the cabinets needs to be decided first. Wall color is last.
I repainted my vanity and tub surround and it came out great. SW has good cabinet paint that’s easy to work with. I also used a darker primer to cover my wood and between sanding, primer and good paint, it came out as I expected.

I would…..remove the tall cabinet between sinks….Looks like you have plenty of storage otherwise. Get rid of fussy light fixtures, including the 2 over tub. Remove or paint dark wood framed mirror and walls in a creamy off white that blends with your flooring. Go to a full wall of mirror over the sinks or just 1 over each sink…..new light color granite to blend with wall color. That will give you a light and bright bathroom! You can add color back with towels, rug and even a fabric Roman shade on windows by tub.

Painting the walls a light, off white would go a long way towards brightening without a huge investment of $.
If it were me I would also remove the dark heavy mirrors and wall sconces, replacing with just beveled mirrors and simple light fixtures. Personally I would also remove the tower on the vanity as it is dark and imposing, but not sure how valuable the storage is to you.
Change the light fixtures over the tub.

Thanks to all of you for your great ideas. Sometimes you just get "stuck" decorating your own home. Red Ryder your new bath looks great! I've sent the asked for lighter photo of the floor tile which is also in the walk in shower as well.

The diamond shape is the same as granite as the countertop.

Replace the two chandeliers over the tub with recessed lighting. 2700K light works for me. It is a warm white light. Higher than 3000K is too bright, more like day light.

Do you need the tower? If not, remove it, the two mirrors. Update the sconces and get two simple beveled mirrors as other have suggested.

Paint the walls a light gray or one of the colors below.

I would not paint the cabinets. Mainly because I think they look good and because I think the paint will have a tendency to chip in the humid bath environment. You might not want to change your granite, go for a light color.

I'm more of a take it in one step at a time type. Start with a refresh rather than a renovation.

Keep the tower between the vanities. Keep all of the cabinets and wood.

An alternative to changing the light fixtures is to spray paint them with a metal paint. I did this in my bathroom. I selected a color that matched up with the stainless hardware in on the doors. They don't take hard wear because they are never touched.

Krylon makes a number of silver family colors. I would try this before I spent money on new lighting. Get rid of the crystal embellishments.

If you don't like your newly painted lighting, you can replace it with something more modern.

Be prepared to remove the mirrors and frames and replace them with larger wall mirrors. That will require professional help.

I would paint the room first, paint the lighting and see how I feel about things.

Paint the room SW Creamy. It's a soft white with a little warmth that will work with your flooring and cabinetry. Do that before you go to the trouble of painting the cabinetry. It's pretty cabinetry and it would be a shame to cover the wood.

That's what I mean by one step at a time.

The floors are fine. What you need is to refresh rather than renovate.

If it were my space, I'd start with steam cleaning the tile and grout. It looks like the tile has some texture and may have gathered some grime in the crevices.

Then I'd paint. The people here are great with paint suggestions, so I'd try out some samples that they've suggested. In my opinion the worst thing in the bathroom is the paint color. I think everything else in the bathroom is really quite nice looking. I actually really love your cabinetry.

Wow, nice bathroom - so much storage! My suggestion is nearly opposite of what you asked for, but here goes:

I'd replace the floor tile and anywhere else that tile appears such as around the tub and shower stall. I think a change of floor tile, plus painting the walls a non-neutral color, would totally refresh the space. If you could convert the upper part of the shower wall to glass, that would look great too. And change the lighting over the tub to recessed lighting (for safety).

But I'd leave the cabinetry, countertops, and mirrors as they are - they're a classic in the making. I'd change the vanity lighting if it doesn't function well, otherwise I'd keep it.

If you want to go slow, as was suggested, paint the walls first. I have a SW creamy kitchen and it’s not right for your bathroom. It will read too yellow.
Houssaon gave you better colors for the walls. Try the suggestion to spray paint the fixtures. Then reassess. How do you feel about removing the center cabinet? It might require a new countertop if you choose that route, but the room will feel much bigger. Just painting my corner cabinet ivory to match the walls opened up my bathroom visually.
Thanks for the compliment on my bathroom. It feels updated with blue cabinets. Your cabinets are in better shape, and much prettier.

Thank you for all your comments......I finished the bathroom! I always like to see the after so I thought I'd post. My painter painted all the cabinets and trim BM Dove White and painted the walls BM OC10. I updated the lighting and the cabinet hardware as well. I'm going to do some sort of large rug and have the tile and grout professionally cleaned but otherwise I think it is a terrific update for a relatively low cost. PS The far right sconce doesn't have a white 'shade' on it in the photos but it will! Thank you again for helping!

Significant difference! Love the painted cabinetry. Would you consider putting a rug in your bathroom? Getting out of the tub and stepping onto the tile floor seems a bit risky. Stepping onto a washable rug might be better. It would cover up some of the tile as well. Good job!

Thank you! I'm definitely getting a large rug. Although the floor is heated, I still want to cover some of that tile with something fresh.

    Looks great. 😊

Very nice! I agree, a large rug will be great. I always bought large, heavy rugs (hint: not expensive) from TJ Maxx or similar and changed them out as necessary. Beautiful job!
