Red pointe maple leaf discoloration?

We live in northern utah- i have 2 redpointe maples, same age, planted in our lawn about 6 years ago , about 25 feet apart from each other. we have slightly alkaline soils and i treated them both with iron earlier in the season. i have one that is thriving and whose leaves are a deep green, and another whose leaves are pictures below. Any idea what is causing this for only one of my maple trees? i treat them identically. The only difference is the location- the thriving one gets a little less sun and the ground is a little more moist. is there a chance this is a water/sun issue?
