I have two patches of Iris, Siberian and tall bearded, located in isolated island of my lawn. Since there is no limit on their outward expansion, the islands have grown large over the years. The Sibarian island developed a bare center, but no bare spots exist in the bearded island. Their foliage are so tight that crowded out weed, but lately they flower less and less. So I know its time to divide them.
Do I divide Siberian differently from bearded. For the Siberian, should I leave the peripheral untouched and just dig out the middle portion. What if I dont divide the bearded and let the island expand indefintely.
