mushroom growing around hosta

I have an area where I have planted both guacamole and patriot hosta. I live in north FL. This is their first year and they are doing great! However we have had a ton of rain this year and a mushroom has wrapped itself around one of my patriots. I tried to get it out once already but it’s a hard mushroom and I basically had to hack it out which resulted in hacking up part of the hosta. Before I do any more damage. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get it out?
My first attempt was about a month ago. And this is it now. It has pretty much grown back.

Looks like turkey tail. Probably doing nothing to your hostas, growing on the mulch or on the dead roots of a removed tree. Really cool. If it is turkey tail, it's reportedly medicinal.

If, for some strange reason, you like you hosta more than the mushroom, dig up and mover the hosta.

Thanks all! I didn’t dawn on me until it was mentioned here but there likely is a root under there, not surface level. But we did cut down a tree very nearby. Thankfully it’s only on that one hosta. I will take Ken’s advice and see what happens over the winter. Just didn’t want it to kill my hosta. Sounds like it won’t so we shall see what happens here in a few months. Thanks again!!
