Good information. I wish pine straw were more readily available where we are. We mulched some beds (which we do only occasionally because of the cost) and with our rainy weather this year, you couldn't tell we had mulched. The weeds were terrible.

I prefer pine needles too!

I use pine needles. I have one stretch of garden that daylilies never did very well, I would lose several daylilies every year.. Over the last few years after mulching with pine needles, I still lose occasional plants, but much fewer. Actually, I have moved plants that aren't doing from areas that I fertilize and baby to this area as a last chance. Several have revived and done well.
