Do you have more pictures of the foyer?

From this picture, I would not add anything there, but a plant.

On the other hand, I could see a glass console, with either brass or polished nickel accent, to add some decorative items. I would look for the largest area rug that can fit the area, one that as you come in the front door, you cannot take your eyes off it it's so beautiful.

Other options, a beautiful runner down that staircase. Possibly changing the banister or painting the

banister in a few years. Also consider beautiful lighting.

If you can do nothing else I would suggest painting the handrail/guardrail. White is the most obvious choice to me but there could be other paints colors or combinations that might work. Good luck!

I'm curious... have you bought the house yet or even put in an offer? You may be worrying for nothing about a house you don't get. None of the renovations you mention are "necessary" they're things you want to change, which is normal, rarely is any house PERFECT for the next buyer.

Sounds like your really considering the home. Come back to this thread when you purchase the house and I am sure you will gets lots of decorating advice to choose from.

The BOOB lights at the top of the hallway..............changing those will be a huge difference in the over all builders look they give! I would also paint the railing.

Is that front room going to be a family tv room? Office? Sitting room? Cigar room? What would be your use for that room? What is your decorating style? Farmhouse? Traditional? Modern? More info needed before you continue asking for help

That's a beautiful home. I don't think that area really NEEDS anything. If you need a place to put your keys and your purse, mail, etc, a small table like is there will work, maybe even a narrower taller one and have it face the door (on the taller wall). Wait until you actually move in and see how you live in the space. You may not want anything there either.
