Congratulations on the new baby! That's so great!
Here are a couple of options:
You could get simple plantation shutters installed (see the first attached picture). They are great for versatility-let in plenty of light when you want, and keep the room very dark when you want. Maybe you could even paint them a bold color to give the room a pop (like a deep red or lighter blue?)
You could also put in a cool window installment between the panes of the window. This second picture is from a house we are currently working on, and it creates a really cool light pattern in the room! Maybe add some sheer gray or black curtains for when you want it a little darker-because they are sheer, they won't completely black out the room, but still block enough light to be comfortable.

Honeycomb shades stack very tight, can span large windows, are light, and somewhat durable. Why don't you consider matching the honeycomb shades for the slider with the ones you already installed on the window? Continuous loop controls are most common for this type of application, but make sure it is attached and tensioned properly. If it isn't it would pose a strangulation hazard.
