Beautiful! Are there 2 different coloured Lantanas in there, or is Royale multicloured…?

I am not sure if I am correct given that this is my first season with this particular variety but it seems to me that depending on the age of the bloom there could be a different colour of the flower.

That’s a lovely lantana. It’s definitely on my list for next year

party_music50, I’d love to learn how you've handled overwintering lantana indoors. This my first season growing lantana and I’m planning to overwinter them in the basement since the garage is not attached to the house and gets quite cold. My understanding is that white flies are a common challenge. Any advice would be appreciated!

Sandy, I just bring them indoors before a killing frost and cut back a little on their watering. I‘m also in z5 NY and I can grow them in my unheated porch for most of the winter (it only drops to 30s in the coldest weeks of winter), in my basement with growlights (typically low 60s, but warmer if I run the pellet stove there), or any room inside that has bright light. They usually bloom inside too.

Re white flies, I only ever had them introduced to my plants when I was given a poinsettia in Dec 2019! I wasn’t happy about that! They went straight for my overwintering lantanas, impatiens, and annual citronella geraniums. It turns out that you can shear off the lantana stems and the plant will grow back beautiful and lush, so that’s how I got rid of the white flies. Also, if you want to start new plants, take cuttings from the fresh new growth in late winter or spring.

Just adding, because I am really impressed with the amount of abuse that lantanas can take. lol! That summer of 2020, when I had the white fly infestation, I decided to dump one of the lantana plants. It must have been late May, I cut back all the stems, removed the entire rootball from the pot, and dumped it on top of a small cold compost pile. Of course it started to grow, so I'd occasionally throw water on it. By July, it was growing lush and covered with flowers. lol! My mother saw it, loved it, so I picked it up and dropped it back into its pot and sent it home with her. :)

It will likely lose a lot of leaves when you bring it inside, due to the drastic change in conditions, so don't panic if it does that.

When starting cuttings, I've had the best luck by taking fresh green cuttings that are 6" - 8" long, remove lower leaves, dip in rooting hormone if you want, then stick the cutting down into moistened potting mix, and water until soil is saturated. I then put the pot into a clear plastic bag that's loosely closed, and place it in a bright spot. iirc, it takes around 3-4 wks before it's rooted enough to remove from the plastic bag.

I really appreciate it that they require so little additional moisture to be successful.

Thanks party_music50. In my area, which is near Hudson, about 30 south of Albany, winter temps can go well below 30. I overwintered a couple of plants on our screened in porch last year - but I think that might be too cold for lantana. I planted a lot of lantana this season because i thought it wouldn’t appeal to deer. Well, I was kind of wrong about that -- they browsed the plants enough to significantly reduce the blooms. I also thought the deer would ignore zinnias which was the case for the masses of profusion zinnias I planted, but they ate the flowers off a small patch of tall yellow zinnias just before I had the chance to collect seeds. So annoying. I want to overwinter the plants because I'm hoping that more mature lantanas would have a better chance against marauding deer (and I don't want to have to buy new plants every year). I'll also start some cuttings as a backup.
