Thought I'd go ahead and post this as a question, since I can't find a good answer online. I know, based on the fact that the branches are all fine, and there was no evidence of rot on the tree, that it is likely not an infection. (Could be, but I don't think so. Tree lives its life indoors, has never been outside, and came from a greenhouse). Anyway, last year my tree produced a single flower on this one small branch that developed into fruit. Unlike the other flowers, this one grew weird and I noticed that when it opened, three of the pistils were conjoined with the fruit. I didn't think it would set, but it did, and it produced a fruit with a single ridge on the side. Tasted just fine. Just looked odd. This year, the branch flowered a ton and all of the flowers that opened had the same strange occurrence. All have set into fruit. What could be causing this? It's not spreading to any more of the tree, but appears to be that one branch and the new growth from it. Would it be best to remove that branch next spring? I think it may be some kind of chimerical behavior, but I've never seen it before. The fruit doesn't rot, just grows weird. I've posted a photo of one of the fruit.
