Kato those are lovely! I love the one with the quill petals. I've been thinking of revisiting mums again, especially since this fall I seem to have a decided lack of blooms other than my annuals.

I've tried several times growing some, getting them in spring, etc., but they just don't seem to do well for me overall. I do have a few that have held on (off the top of my head Debutante and Grand..something - Grandparent?? That seems like an odd name lol) - anyway, they are hanging on, but I've stopped pinching them. Every year I pinch these nice healthy plants and they all decline and die. So I just let them be and have lovely mum blooms in August lol. Maybe it's time to try again!

Now that Football Cheerleader mum is what I call a mum!! Where did you get it?

I got 'Cheerleader' from Faribault growers in Minnesota, they have a good selection of hardy mums and I bet the shipping will be much lower for you than it was for me.

Dee let me know if you want some seed, they're very easy sown outside during the winter, I do it in a pot covered with a little chicken grit, but you could easily scratch them into an open spot (haha, if you have one) somewhere in the sun and wait and see what comes up. they bloom the first year.

and Sheffield which starts out light pink and turns a bit golden with age.

I had it for the thanksgiving flowers one year but lost it.

I have some verson of Will's Wonderful but the colors are paler than I remember. Boring.

It's hard to find full sun in autumn in a yard with trees.Already the sun barely gets above the tree line. so all the Korean mums are leaning despite being pinched. I don't mind; I like their relaxed form much better than the constipated disposable mums everywhere. I have those as well but they are such fleeting things. I feel no attachment compared to the ones I watch grow all season and put a little time into caring for.

just looked at Fairabault's catalogue. What fun! I'd like to try 25 and grow them side by side so I could pick the ones I really like. Not likely. First, I won't remember come spring (that's what google calendar is for though) and I wonder if I'd really be motivated enough to plant a trial garden, keep it watered and weeded and keep the blinkin.' rabbits at bay.

Marie, same here with the autumn sun - the sun doesn't get high enough to get OVER the trees and my yard is almost constant shade. And with oak trees, the leaves take forever to fall.

I've had Sheffield on my want list forever, it seems....

heh heh, 'constipated mums' is something I can't unsee! Yeah, I think at some point I thought my plantings would be a trial garden but eventually it came down to what was planted in the better spots and a little bit of what I really liked and took care of, so really not much of a trial. It was fun though... except for that late June guilt when I'd look at all the new mums still in their little mail order pots and wonder why I didn't plant them in May!
