You are describing a rose which was not in the best shape in a pot, which you bought/rescued. Then you transplanted it into another (larger) pot, and put it in full sun in 80 degree weather. If it was mine, I would not prune it, or do anything to it except rigging some sort of shade cloth or even a wet (white) sheet over it until the weather gets cooler and wetter. I would make sure it is getting enough water, and spray the shade cloth or sheet and the rose

with water every day, so the rose does not dry out in the hot sun. The roots are damaged, and it is trying to grow new ones, so it has naturally been focusing its energy NOT on the new growth, but on surviving. It looks like a basically healthy rose - it just needs a cool shady rest while it recuperates for a while.

THanks Jackie....I'll leave her be and move her towards a wall so she only receives early morning light so she's shaded most of the day. I've been spraying her lightly with my hose any day it's above 70. Hopefully she'll settle in and bounce back in Spring
