I have more questions. What is a house on a ”battleax”? Is the yellow house with carport your house or the neighbor? If it’s neighbor, do you share the driveway?

Hi hi, Battleax is when a plot of land is sub-divided with a house built on the back of it. Here's a pic showing everything we own in blue. Everything in the original picture shown is ours to play with :) Neighbour's house is not pictured in the original picture.

Larger planters make more of a statement than several smaller ones. Larger planters are also easier on plants as they don't tend to dry out as quickly. Below I show two planters with red ice plants which do well in full sun and reflected heat, but you should choose plants that do best in your climate. I assume you use your garage, so wouldn't want the planters there. Also you want to call attention to your front door. The easiest way is by placing an outdoor rug in front of it. You could also use an outdoor runner that extended from the gate door for the length of the planter(s).

Thanks for the ideas! We were def thinking of planters so glad that aligns with others thoughts. Didn’t even think of a full outdoor runner! Great idea. Did you use an app to put those planters in?

@Jessica O Thanks for definition of ”Battleax” house lot. In my neck of the woods those are called ”Flag” lots lots - the driveway being the pole & the lot the house sits on is the flag. Another question - I see a break in the screen at far end of carport - is there a door through there? What does a person see once they walk through gate - a real door into house? How about a large ”welcome” sign on gate & a light over gate - much like a porch entry light. As was suggested, put a welcome mat there too. Dress it up to look like a front door - hang a wreath on the gate.

Yeah, at minimum, I would paint the green fence to match the siding on the house, and then I would paint the entry gate a bright front-door color rather than having it blend into the garage. If you have more money to play with, you could break up the cement in front of the entrance and make a "sidewalk" of flagstones or other contrasting material to make a clear on-ramp.
