Kitchen design - what do you think?

Below are some plans and renditions of our new kitchen design. This is for an 800 square foot house without a fixed island. House is being built to a passive standard. So far spouse and I have decided the cabinets above the sink have to go and the windows made larger. Also the 24-inch cooktop is being replaced with a 30-inch range.

What do you think.

^^These should have deep drawers, not the cabinets with the doors and roll-outs that you show. What your drawing shows means you have to open both doors first, then have those doors sticking straight out, and then you pull out the drawers whose interiors are slightly smaller than if they’d been just drawers without also the doors. Even if you had not mentioned that you were disabled, I’d recommend drawers in the island instead of the doors-with-roll-outs. But being disabled you don't need an extra step of opening two doors and then having those doors sticking straight out in order for you to access the contents.

Aesthetically it would be nice to remove the cabinets above the sink. But is that practical?
Why not a fixed island. You will need storage.

1. Wife wants the view of the tall windows. Happy wife = happy life.

2. Don't have the space for a fixed island, I am slighty disabled and there is not enough width.

If island will not be anchored to the floor, please be mindful of a lot of weight in extended drawers causing a tipping hazard. Also check your local safety code--islands usually require electrical outlets, which means the cabinets would need to be attached to the floor.

Been there, done that. I had a very similar kitchen in a 1200 sq ft split level. Do whatever it takes to get more space between the stove and the refrigerator. You don't need a lot more, but I think the six inches you lost going from a 24" to a 30" has to be added to the end of the run rather than being taken out of the counter. rff
