Sure you could try it. Just be aware that monsteras don't have tendrils the way cucumbers do. They have adventitious roots and may try to put those into the wall behind your rope. If you see it doing that, then you can address that issue at the time. You really don't want it to anchor itself to your wall.

So..., years ago, I was growing the common Philodendron oxycardium in a north window in my bedroom. It was doing fine. Then, one day, I realized what this little guy was doing. It was growing on to my wall with its roots, attaching itself to the wall. It did me the favor of making me realize that this wall was too moist for an interior wall. Can you use a totem with moss? The roots really want to embed themselves in a moist substratum.
