I am also looking at the black tempal…anyone has any experience with this quartz

Did either of you end up using it or leaning anything further? I also like it and am interested

I ended up not going with black temple and I am glad I didn’t! We are doing quartzite instead.

@Ally Mcrobbie we had Oxidian installed in a new construction home on a Friday. When we went to the house, we saw smudges all over the counters -- exactly like you describe with handprints, etc. My husband nearly had a heart attack. We are getting them replaced asap (at our cost) but I intend to try to work with Caesarstone to get some money refunded. I'm amazed they are selling this product. It can't be used anywhere.

I just installed black tempal in my kitchen. It has a modern and rustic look and it is gorgeous. If you don’t like fingerprints, don’t go for it. The discolouration in the picture is the fingerprint. I am ok with it as I like the lived in look.

Looks like the initial fingerprint and smudges that appear right after installation are no longer an issue after months of use. I am beginning to like Black Tempal even more.

Run…run far and fast. I chose to ignore other comments & purchased 3 jumbo slabs, installed 2 weeks ago and they are MISERABLE to try to keep clean. If you touch it, your prints WILL show up. Every dang thing that touches these leaves a mark. We are two adults, no kids and I 100% don’t know how this product is even sold. Awful experience and about 10k regret.

Update to my last post* I have stopped seeing the stains on the counter as much as I e gotten used to them and they don’t seem as bad now for some reason. Was there a film or something that after cleaning multiple doesn’t show? Am I just blind to it now? I don’t know. I think they are beautiful, just more maintenance than I was expecting. I think I’m more frustrated that at the same time I first responded to this thread, I left a voicemail at Ceasarstone Corporate and no one has bothered to call me back. Disheartening to say the least.

Thanks for the update. I still love the look and cant find anything, natural stone or quartz, that nails this moody and modern black look wuite the same. havent decided if I will risk it or not yet!

We just had black tempal installed in the basement and the finger prints are driving me mad! We've had the installer come out twice already and they've been able to remove most of the stains but as soon as you touch it the darn thing stains again.

Any special cleaners you recommend?
How long did it take for your counters not to show finger prints?

Our builder is recommending that we have the installers seal the counters but if its caused by some kind of film on top then maybe it's better if we wait it out?

I did not seal them, but they seem to be getting better with repeated cleaning.

Mine didn’t disappear but to be honest, I don’t see them anymore. Hard to explain but seems like they have dissipated some??? We actually like the counters now and I hadn’t found anything close to this look in anything else so they worked for our needs.

@Stacie Holden-Rivers (for Stacie..can you share what tile you used on the splash and a pic? looks great!) and others on the chain…after a few more moths, how do you feel about the black tempal? I just picked up the sample and was unaware the finish is anything other than other quartz samples. what type of additional care do you need? we are remodling and taking out marble, so high maintainence is something we are trying to avoid. is the material soft like marble? does it chip easirly? get water stains from a glass sitting on the surface? so disappointing to read this chain.

the pix vary in depth of color..do you find it is more black or medium charcoal with significant white running thru the slab? thanks!!

Engineered stone is "softer" than natural stone because of its 33% resin content, however, it's much harder than marble and generally won't stain or etch. Chipping is a consequence of edge profile selection, not material. The more rounded the edge, the less risk of chipping.

Put some Tenax Quartz Toner on your sample please and see if you like the look. You'll get no water stains.

@susanrhill34 It is called a Kavala White Porcelain Tile.

do you believe that the issues in this thread are strictly related to Balck Tempal Casearstone (or Caesarstone in general) vs other types of quartz? a fabricator told me today that their folsk that do the cutting find Cambria, Levatina and Daltile seem to be the stones that result in cleaner cut lines. We will be installing a Wolf induction cooktop that will be flush with the counter, so that could be important for the look.

I do really like the look of the Black Tempal, but also do not want to have major issues with fingerprints, etc. the fabricator also suggested looking at negresco honed granite and nero mist granite. any thought on those?

@susanrhill34 thank you! I am actually very happy with the Black Tempal. It took some getting used to since I haven’t had the matte finish before but we love it. I use windex with one hand and a damp clean read with the other. Nothing fancy, just wipe it down. The subway tile you are mentioning is actually real thin brick. It is off white. Seems like a weird match but looks great. We have a whole wall in the thin brick:

I wouldn't count on it as a stain remover, but it won't hurt.

No. Engineered stone is all essentially the same stuff. Everyone seems to think they can avoid a problem by switching brands; you can't.

I happen to be looking at similar color combinations using white and off white together. from what I see in the your pix, looks like the tile is stark white vs the off-white brick? we are also doing a major kitchen reno..appreciate the offer for the black tempal, but we live in NC.

when I was at a fabricator the other day, I commented that I wanted to quartz for ease of cleaning with windex...I received a very negative response telling me to never do that! just mild soap and water! I was also told this when we installed marbe and would make a diluted spray fo dawn and water..but have mostly given that up now too. can you share which brick you used? thanks again!

I had read in one thread that someone had the Casearstone Oxidan and noted that the finish/process on that one and Black Tempal were the only two with that particluar finish/process. are you aware of that being an issue or reasons for concern? is it the black that tends to show more fingerprints? when I search for other dark quarts, for example Daltile Broadway Black, I do not find concerns about the fingerprinting, etc.

@susanrhill the tile is def stark white. I only use warm water and soap 99% of the time but if something is sticky, I have to do what I have to do lol. I don’t leave it sitting for any amount of time. The brick, we just got lucky and found a person selling it leftover from a commercial job so I don’t have the name for it unfortunately.

I did see a pic online of before and after the use of tenax, which seemed to darken the quartz, but worth a shot. one last question…what are your thougths about soapstone vs quartz? I have read some slabs scratch more easily than others, but would appreciate your insight.thanks

That's like asking if I prefer a pick up truck to a sedan. Both are fine vehicles and will take you where you want to go. The soapstoners are near cultish in their devotion which is fine. It's a terrific top if you're into funk. Do your research please.

@Stacie Holden-Rivers Wanted to share some info with…which you may already be aware of. I went over to Casearstone to look at Black Tempal. The Caesarstone rep told me there quartz is safe to use softscrub with clorox, and others. I found this to be surprising, but when checking their site, softscrub gel with cloros is pictured there along with some other cleaners other quartz manufacturers say NOT to use. I did try regular soft scrub on a sample I had that came with assorted fingerprints on it. and it worked! wondering if you have tried this..but thought you might be interested in looking at the care and maintenance page on their site if you have not already. Caesarstone from my view has the most realistic looking options for quartz, which I personally prefer.

Funny enough just a couple of days ago my husband and I were cleaning the kitchen and out of nowhere he said “I thought we’d have a lot more issues with water stains and fingerprints”…we really don’t feel like it is high maintenance anymore. It is beautiful and as someone mentioned above…moody. Every single person that sees it loves it

as of today just finished our design..but have to choose paint/stain colors. love the black, not sure yet it fits for us, but would be interested in what color paint you used.

I just ordered black temple and the installation company scare the bejeebers out of me! I called Caesarstone and they told me that there is a patina on them and it goes away in time. That patina is probably why the "stains" are so visible. What really bothered me was that there was color differences even from the same batch and sometimes it is significant. They suggested that I go inspect the slabs before they cut them... I am 3 hours away from the installers though. Has anyone noticed a big color difference at the seams?
