Tile vs Wallpaper

This popped up on my IG today. I like it a lot … think it’s very charming and has an evolved-over-time look.

But I’m not loving the wallpaper and tile competing here. I’m Team Tile and think the wallpaper sort of hides it.

What do you think?

It works great, so shut it, Jinx.
I agree with you — the tile disappears.
I don’t like this room at all, so none of the above.
Who brought treats to this poll? I’m calling the Chex Mix.
What do we get for reading this far?

    Zalco! You didn’t vote!

(But I wish I’d thought to put that great pun in my poll.) 😄

I did vote. I called for Chex Mix.

Oh, oops, I had to vote to see the results.

I voted that I agree with myself.

Well, we have posters fighting over the Chex Mix. I had a feeling this would happen.

I will gladly give away the little rye breads, can’t stand them! But I want M&Ms in return.

    Are peanut M&Ms ok?

Oh, definitely … in fact, I prefer those.

I like the wallpaper better than the tile, but I certainly do not like them together, for several reasons.

The wallpaper looks like a bunch of dancing 5-year olds wearing tutu's and shaking pom poms.

    Not for me.

I like wallpaper, but definitely not that wallpaper. I also don't like the sink, skirt or tile! Well at least not all together. I could like the tile, but not used that way and not with the wallpaper. The room could certainly lend itself to wallpaper, I get the mood they are going for (I think). Tile could even work if it were a solid tile. If space is an issue (I'd like to see the whole room), I think a pedestal sink would look alot better.

I’d love to see the whole bathroom, unless it’s just a staged display for the paper. I’m not sure. (I’m thinking a real bathroom with the tile.)

It's yucky, every bit. The tile might be okay somewhere else, but not in that jumbled fake "Oh I forgot to look at the images on the tile before I stuck them down" layout.

I like the wallpaper better than the tile in this application. The tile kind of looks like a funhouse mirror of the wallpaper, changing both color and shape. It's a very bad pairing.

I voted that It Works Great PURELY because I admire the homeowner's/ decorator's chutzpah in arranging a mirror, tile, wallpaper, decorative plates, and a skirted vanity that have absolutely NO business being together...

You find poor taste "chutzpah"???? I find the skirted sink as poorly placed as the tile/wall paper combo. Can't handle fabric skirting.

I find bad taste a type of chutzpah, sure...it takes self-confidence to do something that is out of the norm. I feel like good taste and bad taste are often separated by a thin line. Paige Rense who edited AD for many years said she intentionally included things that were vulgar or in bad taste in the content. And I think the magazine continues to do so. I personally think the worst sort of taste is banal taste or really no personal taste where everything is safe and middle of the road and unremarkable in every way.

    Well said, pal.

Of course maybe banal or ordinary is Not the worst sort of taste, because there is nothing wrong with it per se. Ostentatious for the sake of being ostentatious, or bad taste masquerading as good taste, or cheap masquerading as quality, maybe those are worse. I actually think it's a complex subject.

This is in the UK, I’d like to see the house its in. Context makes a difference. I can think of all of the houses over there it would fit perfectly in, and look ….. right at home.

(Ok, ok! Bad pun. I can’t have coffee anymore, so my morning brain is mush!)
