Are these 1935 floors worth saving?

I am looking at buying a 1935 home that needs a good bit of work. Can anyone tell me from the picture what type of wood they are? The contractor is saying these floor boards are "thin" because of the way they have lifted up and he says they aren't worth repairing. I know they have some moisture damage but I'd much rather deal with that than put in boring modern floors.
