My builder uses Houzz Pro to plan the timeline and give detailed estimates and daily updates with photos of progress, and provide invoices at pre-agreed key points in the build. This made the whole experience much more efficient and stress-free.
The reality is, is that the majority of your lighting and finishes for our homes (not to mention most of our medications of all things) are manufactured in china. You can for sure find items made in the USA but the cost is probably 4x higher. We cant compete with child labor or slave labor from China. Having said that not everyone can pay $100 in a lighting store when walmart has it for $25. Thats a simplistic explanation. It would be fantastic to buy Made in the USA, do it when you can.
I think they were talking about buying direct from China. At least that is how I understood it. I won't do that because it takes so long to get here and the communication is non existent. Also, you are usually not getting what is pictured and returns are a nightmare if even possible. Almost everything is made in China. We all know that. And we all know they own a lot of companies that appear to be American. I buy American or European when I can but it's hard because so much comes from there. I read a book about it a few years ago called "Not Made In China" where a woman went a whole year without buying a single thing made there. It's hard to do, but can be done if you are very determined. I will not buy directly from a Chinese business that ships it to me.
I am sorry. I was afraid I'd be misunderstood. I have no objection to anything from China. My concern was not knowing the manufacturer. If I don't know who makes it in the US, I do my research as well. or look at reviews. I ended up getting an Italian chandelier.
No, I would not buy a fragile glass light directly from a Chinese manufacturer. It's enough trouble dealing with replacement of broken things from American companies whose things are made in China.
