Treads color help

we took on a project to help my parents panit and stain their indoor stairs. we succesfully painted white the risers and stringers. and some how succesfully stained the railing and posts… the color turned out darker than we intended - blue grayish. now we are at a point to stain the treds but now my parents think that having the treds same color as the railing will make the house darker and they are wondering if the treads should just stay wod color with teak oil.

the spindles are black iron.

i am attaching a picture of current state and a moke up of what it would look like with drak tredS (sorry about bad lighting)

any thoughts would be appeciate it
