Tricky living-dining open space layout

Hey,

I am moving into this apartment in a building that used to be a factory and now converted to apartments.

For some reason - maybe more light flow - they used glass walls to cut out a chunk of the living open space to make it into a winter garden. I think its strange because it is actually an integral part of the apartment with a proper wall and ceiling. However, I also think its quite charming and I think of keeping it to avoid renovation work. The general idea is to keep the rest of the apartment clean and have a jungle in the winter garden.

The problem: the space for living and dining is square, not too spacious, and there are only two walls (the other 2 directions are kitchen and glass wall).

I was considering maybe pushing the dining table against the sofa, but i think its hard to pull off. I am not 100% i need a tv but i would still perfer a 3-seater facing a wall over 2 sets of 2-seater against each other.

How many people regularly eat meals together? And how often does that number increase? My point is does a dining table that seats 4/6 comfortably have to live in your apartment if only 1/2 people regularly eat? If you had banquette seating and a round cafe style table you could tuck it into the glass corner by the double doors. And do both doors have to be operable at all times to get into the garden room?

Agreed set up for your DAILY life. A fold in half banquet table tucked under a bed can be a great solution for game night or occasional dinner party.

Valid points. I am gonna be living there on my own but I like to host friends, so I would need a table of 4. 6 would be amazing but honestly not very frequently used. I do however like using big tables also for working on my laptop etc.

do you think a round table is better?

If you want a rectangular table, get a bench for one of the long sides instead of chairs. Then you could keep the table up against the wall most of the time. A round table would tuck into the corner by the garden area nicely.

Choose a drop leaf table for behind the sofa.

If this was to be my apartment, I’d put a round pedestal table in the plant room, with four good chairs(I’d prefer 6 and put the other two to use in the entry or bedroom), find or build or commission a console table for behind the sofa (as in backing up to the sofa) and use that to spread out my work, hold a lamp, vase, etc. so if I had a few friends over for a meal we could sit at the table in the plant room, more than a few I could pull out the long console table to seat more, a whole bunch of people for a party and the console table could hold snacks or act as a bar, etc.
