Squirrels nabbed my tags HELP!! SOLVED!!

Hi All :)

I am new to this joint but I have been a collector since 2007. I have been looking for a place that shares my interest and I think I may have found it.

A lil background.....

I am in Sarasota, Fl..good hoya growing weather and once I discovered them I went nutz. I purchased many a plant from Kartuz, Gardino and Tropiflora (back then a 2.5" pot was $8.50 o_O) with the occasional EA from HomePo. My collection is over 70. Things rolled along for a long time then life got in the way and I neglected my planties (err over 10 years). Toppled pots, missing tags and long vines climbing up the trees and no tags in sight.

I finally got my poop in a group and started reclaiming my collection this year and giving them the tender loving care they deserve. Now I am trying to identify the last of them. I had to guess on many until they flower so I did the leaf identification thing.. I am sure I will be correcting when they bloom again. I went off my old invoices to at least narrow down the possibilities.

I have been out of it for so long it took all year to repot and organize to the best of my ability. Some plants stems ended up in water. This is one of them. I have another but I will wait to upload that pic.

The leaves are NOT thick but that maybe a result of them being in water for err..who knows. All of the tips are distinct and the stem to leaf are is a narrow V. There are some silver specks and the back of the leaf is undefined.

Since I took these out of the water now I have to pot them....hope I don't kill them off :P

Think I finally know what this one is!! I have a 2012 photo of it and the flower. The leaves are indeed quite thick..the 1st photo a cutting in water.

Here is my 2012 photos of this plant.

I think..KNOW...from old sales receipt, it is a Hoya Hoya Verticillata bought in 2010. Bought it from Gardino Nursey as 1 x HOYA VERTICILLATA 'BROWN TIPS' (5" pot) () = $15.00 <---- roflmao they were all cheap back then. I also cross referenced it to some botanical specs and this is it for sure..probably renamed a dozen time since then.

HOYA VERTICILLATA 'BROWN TIPS'

FAMILY : Apocynaceae
ORIGIN : Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia
TYPE/USES : hanging basket or trellis
SIZE : 4' - 5'
LIGHT REQUIREMENTS : filtered light
WATER REQUIREMENTS : let dry before watering
MIN. TEMP. : low 60's
FLOWER : warmer months on mature plants
COMMENTS : this Hoya gets one of the most fragrant flowers in the family

Hoya verticillata 'Brown Tips' is grown outside year round at our nursery in south Florida. The leaves tend to have some spots/dots on them at all times. The imperfections are not a disease and will not affect the plants health. If you grow your plants in a different climate, the new growth should be clean.

YAY!! One down 2 to go!!

At least you've got great weather. I think you'll find this site enjoyable, with a lot of knowledgeable people ready and willing to help. Just keep posting your pictures and asking questions. We'll do what we can to help further your addiction.

From my old invoices I think it might be a Hoya mindorensis. I did the google thing but these leaf forms seems to vary big time. Got the plant in 2007..grows like crazy..Don't think it flowered but it trails towards the light and seems to like to tree climb. Hope this additional info will help.

Flowers will certainly make it easier to give it an ID. I'm of no help on this one. Do you have any new pics since it perked up?

That photo of the leaves are the best she getz. I did a water tendril and the new leaves are Kelly green. Might need an injection of nutrients but not knowing what I have I don't want to go there yet.

Middle, sorry but I can't help either on the leaves. Some are obvious, but others can be difficult. It may very well be mindorensis, but when it flowers I think we'll all have a better idea. I have a bunch of noids a guy in Florida sent me. He, like you, had them growing in his yard and just chopped them out of the trees. To this day I call the Fred, Linda, George, Carol.... because I have no idea who the are! To me it doesn't matter because I just enjoy growing them and watching them thrive. I'm sure it would drive others crazy, but I've learned not to sweat the small things in life.

I wish you a lot of luck with your plants and we'd love to continue seeing your pictures and hearing your stories. It's a great forum and some truly great, and very knowledgeable people.

Almost forgot..depending on lighting conditions the leaves get any where from light green to dark green with splash like the water cuttings. My Mother plants does not show any splash but it is because I had it in too much light. I moved it to a less lit spot and the new growth has splash and darker green leaves. The coffee cup rigs are natural. Odd one for sure.
