Looks like a cheery sight, kind of like a winter jasmine in full bloom lol

Bizarre. Around here we had lilacs with a widespread flowering in late September/early October. It kind of felt like May, but not quite. Syringa is known for sporadic late season flowering, but nothing like we witnessed this year. Dave, care to speculate as to this extremely late Forsythia flowering? Is this a one off or is it widespread?

It's very common here (Arkansas), don't be alarmed.

Saw same thing here the warm Dec in 2015. Dandelions on lawns too.

Depends on where one might be located :-) I have nasturtiums still in bloom and rhododendrons here often produce a flurry of winter flowers.

maackia - I'm assuming it was triggered by the generally mild, damp weather we've had over the last couple months. I did notice some widely scattered flowers on a few other forsythias in the area, and they all appeared to be growing in fairly exposed locations, so it's apparently not a result of being in a protected microclimate. Perhaps there's a specific cultivar that has a greater propensity to flower in late fall(?)

There are Forsythia in our upstate NY neighborhood with some sparse flowers still evident. There's always some re-bloom when we've had warm, mild autumns in the past, but I can't recall a year where the blossoms held on this long through several hard frosts and bouts of snow.

Like others mentioned, we also had a handful of flowers on our 'Bloomerang' Lilac almost to Thanksgiving day.
