Making do in my new kitchen

We just moved into a house that was built in 1995, with the original kitchen. The kitchen is head and shoulders better than almost every listing I saw on line (and I must have looked at hundreds!), but it's certainly not perfect. However, we aren't looking to do a remodel any time soon.

But there are always things one can do to improve! There were shelves in the small laundry room adjacent to the kitchen - only 7" deep. I replaced those with 12" shelves.

I added a shelf to all but one of the upper cabinets.

I added a shelf to one base cabinet, to provide a place for cookie sheets (the new shelf is 3" above the existing shelf).

I removed shelves and added pullouts to 4 base cabinets - one of them became a trash/recycle pullout.

There is still work to do - next week a plumber friend is going to install a garbage disposal, and in the spring we will replace the OTR microwave with a proper venting range hood, but it's at least functional! After living with all drawers for 8 years, I could NOT go back to base cabinets.
