I'd keep the countertop all one height to visually open the kitchen more to the dining and family rooms. It would give you more functional countertop space next to the sink and near the other rooms to set things down.

I also agree to keeping it one height with stools there. Then the island could have deeper drawers (no stools) and a small prep sink.

I would not intentionally set that wall for a sitting spot. I would not place stools over there. You already have that at your island? However, you can raise the wall 6-8” behind the sinks and cap it with the same countertop as your kitchen to create a look of a wrap around the kitchen. It will also set the divide between kitchen and dining areas. You can also use the space of the heightened wall for installation of an outlet nearby…

If you decide to leave the wall counter height, consider extending the counter depth by 12” and tuck storage cabinets on the side facing the dining area. In other words, you’ll have a gorgeous wide countertop measuring 36” on the peninsula, as apposed to the standard 24” counter depth.
