I think the light fixture is fine. You need a big, colorful piece of art on that back wall. More color overall in the room. Flowers/a runner on the table. Replace the rug with one with color (though, personally, I don't see the point of rugs under eating tables... unless vacuuming is your favorite form of exercise...

Thabk you. We plan to put art on wall just have not decided on anything. The rug under the table is to protect the floors from the chairs. The chairs have wood protectors but they fall all the time and the chairs have left marks on floor.

A great rug with some color that is larger than your current rug would do wonders! I think the light look fine. If you want black, spray paint it.

I think your bulbs are just way too bright. There is nothing wrong with the fixture. It’s a nice fixture. Try to replace the bulbs with a lower wattage or put in warmer bulbs and a dimmer switch. The quality and brightness is just way too jarring for eating. The table is fine too.

husband does not like the light. I think it may be too modern for him. We both like this pendant. Do you think this will work in our space?

Re: the fixture you posted: are you thinking a single pendant over the table or multiple? A single bulb would not be enough light I don't think -but multiple is a more complex installation

It is personal taste but I don't love the exposed bulb look that is really popular right now - I think dining rooms are often decorated without sufficient texture and they have too many hard surfaces so they feel cold and not inviting. I would wait on replacing the light fixture until you get the rest of the room settled with art and a new rug, until you know the direction you want to take it's hard to know what to replace it with - see if you can find some images of dining rooms you love with blue (to jibe with your chairs) and it may help give you some direction

I like what you have and would not change the light fixture. Changing the silver-tone metal would make no difference and would just be effort /money gone.

The problem is that the room isn't finished; oh, you have all the major players, but that's it. You need to accessorize:

- I'm not loving that gray-white picture leaning against the wall. You need to bring in some color through artwork, definitely something heavy on blue (to tie into the chairs), and it needs to be something with personality -- not a marble-looking filler.

- The walls are dull as dirt -- no relief from the solid white. Consider an accent wall with wallpaper on the far end -- again, something with lots of blue.

- Add something floral or candle-y in the middle of the table.

- What's that indent /shelf in the wall? I think it's something cool, and it should be accented.

- Honestly, I didn't even see the rug until someone else talked about it. A solid brown rug on hardwood? What's the point? Maybe a rug with blue-print, maybe no rug. But not the rug you have now.

It looks like the lighting seems to work well. The things we might recommend is to look into a nice piece of artwork with some blue in it and a rug as well to go under the table. Here are a few ideas from our designs:
