What sheen will you have for appliances and other accessories, lighting, etc.?

Maybe consider a matte black faucet if you're using soapstone.

I am using white appliance. Not stainless steel. The pulls matched the faucet almost perfect!

Got lucky there, just had to be wait for the faucet to show up before assuming it wouldn't work lol. Going white apron sink. Not 100% on the soapstone but really love it…it's a bungalow kitchen, only 12x12, so no island or pendant lighting.

Kim, you lucked out with the faucet! I have soapstone in a powder room and I love it too but in a small kitchen you might find it overpowering.

I am going to pick a different soapstone or honed black granite I think. Only doing one wall and one smaller piece and white walls. I have 2 large windows and a door with windows as well so there is a lot of natural light. :)

I think the viability of the soapstone might depend on the amount of light you get in your kitchen, but i really like the look. For fun, here's our main backsplash area this morning with an eastern exposure:

I ended up using butcher block instead and LOVE IT! It's Ash. Stained a nice medium tone. The tile guys were doing outdoor work while summer was here so tile is not going in until November. Let me find a recent pic. Used cotswold glass in the upper cabinets. Kept the paint Farrow & Ball Treron. Here is the Rejuvenation Malliard light we are using. The last pic is a beautiful cabinet I had to have.
