Decorating Idea

I would love to have opinions on what I should do on the right side of the fireplace. What should I hang on the wall? Would you put a chair in the corner or something else? I would also be willing to hang a different picture on the left side. Thank you in advance!

Pretty room! I might consider putting a comfy chair and ottoman next to the fireplace, and a floor lamp that can be angled for reading. It could be a cozy spot for looking out the window while warming by the fire when not watching TV.

Your colors are so pretty! I would prefer a pair of matching cabinets for the sides. Then add one nice piece of art above each.

Here are some examples, but there are a lot of choices out there.

Though there’s symmetry in the space so identical treatments on each side such as shelving or cabinets always looks great, you don’t need to limit yourself to doing that. What do you want more of in this room - seating or display & strorage? I agree with @Kaya that a comfy chair, light etc would be very nice. Not all seating has to be angled towards TV. On the left side, I do think a larger picture would be better but also a larger cabinet. The cabinet & piece above it are great together but I think are too small scale next to the big stone fireplace. Maybe the cabinet could be on right side with a chair angled in front of it & a floor lamp for light? The cabinet scale would be good since it wouldn’t be alone in an open space. I’d put a larger cabinet or shelf piece on left with larger art above - and maybe a coordinating framed piece over smaller cabinet moved to right? Much of suggestion is guess since we only see the edges of room so don’t know what else is there or style of furnishings.

I would put in a large cabinet and hang the TV above it, or on it. It will be deep so you might need to have the TV on it so you can pull it flush with the front of the firebox.

Posting a few more pictures so y’all can see the edges of the room. I also put a rocking chair and a picture on the wall in the space that I’m wanting ideas for. This is how I originally had it before I put up our Christmas Tree. I’m loving all of y’all ideas. Thanks again!

@Rachel Dumas Very nice space & I love the combo of light & dark furniture & different layers of texture with leather, rugs pillows etc. Really like the pendants too. The rocker looks interesting & great size for spot from the bit we can see. I noted the matching art hung on both sides too. I still think larger art on both sides would be better. Could the floor pot behind rocker be placed next to FP on left side to add ’bulk’ to cabinet? That, along with larger art might make the cabinet size work in that open space. Is there a side table by the rocker? Thanks for sharing more views of your lovely home - the patio also looks beautiful!

KW thank you for your nice comments and advice. I’m going to move the floor pot to the other side. I don’t have a side table to put by the rocker but can get one to put there. Iv been looking for larger artwork for each side of the fireplace but when I find something that I think will look good On one side I have a hard time figuring out what will look good for the other side. Then I find myself thinking is this artwork to big or is it not big enough. Im a copycat when it come to decorating because I don’t have that minds eye. I really like the idea y’all have to put larger cabinets on each side of the fireplace so I’m considering that also.

@Rachel Dumas about art for our homes - I think art is & should be personal. That is, choose art that speaks to you, makes you happy when you look at it. Don’t choose art as a decorator item to go with a room. That said, we do place art in spaces appropriate for the images in the art. I love water colors. I found a local water color artist whose work I loved. My home is filled with his art and I chose frames & mats for each that worked with the image & also in the room I wanted to display that art. Be forewarned though that custom framing & mattimg can cost couple hundred $$ for that $25 print! If you like to change things out every so often, shop at local decorator stores. Pier One used to have great framed art so check places like that. Looks like a wooded area outside your patio so maybe photgraphic nature prints? Easy to find two compatible prints on that topic - or animals?

Ok that’s great to know. I’m inspired to go shop again!
Again thank you so much for your time!

@Rachel Dumas Another thought to help figure out what size art will look right - look online at art sites & using measurements of art larger than what you have, make a paper mock up & tape to wall to get a visual of size. Easiest way is to use wrapping paper or butcher paper etc. cut out size, tape to wall & check it out. Same thing with potential cabinets or shelving pieces - tape out dimensions on the floor. Doing mockups helped me many times!
