I owned a house very similar to this. I changed the color from sage green to light grey that didnt have a blue cast, charcoal shutters, white trim, red front door. I had the same windows but wasn't able to change them when I had the house painted. If I had an opportunity, I would have put my siding under the window and used shutters that fit the window, instead of the long shutters. With lots of color in the landscaping and large pots at the front door, the house looked more like a cottage, rather than a late 60's rancher.

I am assuming you are not repainting the cream on the brick. Then the siding, IMO, should be the same as the brick. Remove the shutters and paint that trim under the windows the same as the brick.

Clapboard would be my choice for the siding.
