OK. I would first suggest 'Rosette Delizy' . . . This is one I've always loved.

If you can get 'Gen. Gallieni' to grow for you, do so. I love it, but it doesn't want to grow here.

And I am very impressed with 'Marie Nabonnand,' (A Tea, Cl.) often sold as 'Noella Nabonnand'

Jeri and I are both of the persuasion that we've never met a Nabonnand we didn't like, lol. But other than the ones she has already nominated (which I heartily agree with, though I don't have MN/NN), I'll add Papa Gontier, Comtesse de Leusse, Mademoiselle Franziska Krüger, and if you like copper/salmon tones, Isabelle Nabonnand. These all need time to mature before you pass judgment on them. As the bush matures, the contrast between the buds and open blooms becomes one of their best assets. These have all been hardy in my Z7 garden, which is also a major asset, lol. But I just happen to love the grace and "je ne sais quoi" that the Nabonnand line possesses.

Thank you! I didn’t know Rosette Delizy was part of the clan-I have that coming from ARE in the spring. That makes me super excited because I really love everything about G Nabonnand.

Comtesse de Leusse is one I had in my basket in the past but I went with Mdm Lombard/Lambard instead-can’t remember why.

John is Isabelle Nabonnand and Clementina Carbonieri the same rose? I had CC, but it died :( so have to get another. I still have hippolye for you. You are wanting it is Spring, right?

Now about CC and IN: in my garden they aren't the same, BUT...the mix up is worse than you think. There is a lot of confusion about Clementina Carbonieri in commerce. It may be the same as Souv. de Gilbert Nabonnand (which is itself confused with G. Nabonnand, not because of looks, just because of the similar names being confused. SdGN and GN are definitely two different roses). To make matters worse, some plants sold as IN are actually CC. So if you buy "CC", it may actually be SdGN. If you buy "IN" it may be CC. One ray of hope is that the mix up seems to be worse in Europe.

Again, in my garden, CC, IN and GN are all different. I think I bought each of them from different sources. I don't have SdGN.

If this helps, CC is a much more saturated, darker color than IN, though definitely in the same color family. And it may just be a fluke, but for me, IN is slightly more upright and smaller than CC.

I have three Nabonnands--General Schablikine, Lady Waterlow and Irene Bonnet. All of them are special in their own way, so I couldn't pick a favorite. Oddly enough, G. Nabonnand didn't work out for me--the soft, delicate flowers emerged from buds encrusted in mildew. I was hoping it would grow out of it (like Bon Silene did for me) but I finally gave up. My climate just was not right for it.

WOW! And I thought WE were Mildew-Central!

RBEHS reminded me that I forgot Gen. Schablikine. It's one of my favorites, even among the Nabonnands. I lost my 10yo plant to rossette disease (I didn't cry...much), but I've got a new one from ARE coming along in a 5 gallon pot, to be planted out this Spring (I hope. You know me and my pot ghetto, lol). It has all the quintessential Nabonnand traits, and you won't be disappointed. He's in the top 10 of all my roses.

Edit: I forgot to mention that GS is among the earliest of my teas to bloom, at least two weeks ahead of Mons Tillier to reach full flush in Spring.

John, where do you think the General lands in the color department amd how about its fragrance?

I love the fragrance of my G. Nabonnand. It does get quite a bit of powdery mildew. Many of my roses get PM so I probably need to water more and I heard more potassium can help. Blooms are like porcelain

I have wanted Marie Nabonnand for awhile but couldn’t obtain her so I ended up getting Crimson Glory red climber instead. My Rosette Delizy has very healthy foliage but the flowers can be muddled in the middle sometimes, but she is only three years old so this will hopefully straighten out. I have never seen the blooms on the RD at Huntington look muddled.

Tea Roses, remember, aren't HYBRID Teas. That "muddled" center is quite correct for that cultivar -- Something I was never able to convey to ARS Rose Judges.

I don't think that there is a Nabonnand rose in existence that I didn't wish I had. Sadly, there are very few spots in my yard where a tea will thrive. I'm so grateful for those who have shared theirs here. I can always dream...

I have never tried to grow a tea rose, but this post is making me want one. Maybe in a pot that I can place in midday sun and bring into the cold basement... I don't think teas get nearly as big in my Northern European climate as in the US. Maybe I will get a Clementina Carbonieri to see what those colours are relly like 😊

I remember reading that Emmanuella de Mouchy is thought to actually be Irene Bonnet. I can get a E d M in Denmark but it is said to only flower in summer. Can it still be Irene Bonnet then, I wonder? @Formerly RBEHS Z10A/S17 does your Irene bloom more than once?

Yes, mine blooms throughout the year, so that sounds like it could be the true EdM.

General Schablikine is a Nabonnand? I’ve had mine for five years and never knew. Now I feel as if i should go outside and give it a cookie …

What a wonderful family of roses. I’d get more if I had the room. John, my experience is the same — GS blooms first. i’m crazy for the long pointed buds.
