yes, LVP next to real hardwood looks horrible, so scratch that idea.

Can you match that existing hardwood?

If you can't, then bring in a large format (not 12x12) tile. There are thousands of design ideas.

You could do a black slate or porcelain tile,

or blend in a black hex tile w/your existing wood floor

or do something lighter like a cement look, shown here in a large hex tile (porcelain)

Or, try a 24x24 porcelain tile in a stone-look porcelain. comes in all colors

You could look luxury vinyl tiles. Lots of choices. Much easier to on ceramic and things don't break dropped.

If that your hardwood, the very dark brown, I disagree with putting it in the kitchen. Continuing hardwood is always the top choice here but not in this case.

The cabinets will all be white (including under the pictured granite counter) and the flooring pictured in a beige hue is what we want to replace. The flooring in the back of the pic is dark hard wood. We cannot use that in the kitchen as it's not only discontinued but we don't see it holding up in the kitchen (scratching in the foyer etc)

if that's the case, I'd go w/a simple porcelain tile that looks like a limestone.

go to a good tile place, show them these pictures, say you want a larger porcelain tile that resembles a neutral cream or soft gray limestone.

Beth H. I like the slate idea. I really like the hard wood stained to match but I'm leary.... we have it in the entryway and its scratched and chipped already. I love the look but I'm not finding it as "durable" as others are saying.

The Tuscan look is leaving the building! We're painting the cabinets white, the granite is staying as pictured, and I'm trying to get the spindles removed.
The picture looking into the family room is my "style." Shiplap on the wall behind TV, white wash brick, chunky beam mantle, glass and minimalistic accessories.

Here's mine,,,,before. I had all of that fluted trim, rope trim, corbels, all of it, removed prior to painting. added drawers to my island, got a vent hood, diff micro to below the oven, put in a casement window, new splash, enclosed the shelves on the desk area, oh, and that granite and flooring had to go. It was a slate tile, which I actually liked, but I wanted all hardwood throught the entire room.

Here's what I think we may go with, "slate" vinyl tile.
This is up against the hardwood that will be next to it in 3 areas of the kitchen. The slate looks good with the existing granite which was a must as well.

Next question! I'd love to turn our cabinet doors around to have a cleaner front. However, there are detailed pieces on the exposed sides of the cabinets that then will look out of place. Is there a way to cover these?

since it's inset, no way to remove them.

you could have the end reskinned, but that's more cost. once they're painted it should look too bad. I actually have something similar on my island panel.

I like the herringbone in the larger format tile.
