Limestone discoloration

Just completed an outdoor kitchen with fireplace Used limestone for the fireplace and face of kitchen. Ive now noticed that the limestone is discolored wirh a brown/ black patches. Some of the limestone had to be cleaned prior to installation because of mold. I di not know how it was cleaned or with what products. Cedar was used for mantle and pergola. Is this common problem? How do you clean limestone? Is painting the only option to correct this?

You paid good money for that beautiful limestone. Do not even consider paint.

Start with a pressure washer set at a low pressure. If water alone doesn't work, move on to a limestone cleaner. Just google for some of the brands. Do not use anything acidic.

Not an expert by any stretch - but could that be cedar bleed from the mantle?

Try a white terry cloth rag, does it rub off? Looks like the fireplace hasn't had a proper air flow when it's been on.
