convert them to LED wafer lights "recessed" look a like. in the stairwell go with a black fixture tie into the railing. I would also consider swagging it to the center of the inset rather than centered to the landing?

That was my gut to go with the flush mount- like these?

But didn’t want to deal with cutting drywall. But if it’s a bigger impact then I can.

You can buy wafer lights that attach to the regular junction box you have there. no need to make holes.

The second hanging light in the hallway, I would convert that to "recessed" or wafer light as well.

I dont see a need to have a hanging light there.

In the stairwell its self I would swag it out away from the wall, and use LED bulbs in it.

In looking at those lights, the Costco ones don’t need a bigger hole!

They were a good deal.. my Costco didn’t have any and the next closest was an hour away.

We never use the light by the front door, but I do use the stair light. I like your suggestions.

LED are a must… I learned my lesson and I’m never getting a house with ceilings higher than 14ft. Hell even 10 foot is good by me.
