Hello! That is some good looking vertical grain Long Leaf Pine flooring! I would have your finisher do some stain samples on the floor to get the color you like. The color variations from board to board are natural. The darker the stain the more it will 'neutralize' the color difference, however you will also start to loose the grain in the wood.

Please be careful going too dark with your historic floor. I know you don't like the difference in that one yellow board, and I get it, but going too dark will lose beauty of the heart pine altogether.

In your picture, you can see that the yellow board is naturally more yellow than the rest of the floor. To make that difference less dramatic, your floor will be VERY dark. And that board will always be lighter.

Personally, I would learn to embrace the variation in the floor. But I love heart pine. If I had it, I would be celebrating it!

Thank you! I very much appreciate the grain, but the yellow (it is pretty prolific in some areas) has made it hard with paint colors and furniture. Maybe there is an intermediate that toned down the yellow without losing the grain and beauty of the wood?
