Agree with millworkman - steel braces are better and you can eliminate the corbels - one less thing to bang your knees on

Agree, my overhang for my 5x8 Island is 16", you can't even see the support steel.

Thank you for the quick reply. the problem is the stone is supposed to be installed this week. my husband searched for the steel countertop supports but they are not in stock anywhere around here. we would have to order it and push everything back which we did not want to have to do. thats why im asking for advice to see if we can get by without it or if it was a must.

another question.. can it be any steel L shaped bracket that we could find at ace hardware? or does it specifially need to say counter top support bracket?

My son built a square tube support for ours integrated into the cabinets. We have only a 15 inch overhang on one side and a 12 on the other. Stone is hard and heavy, please support it well.

My 10’ angled island with 14” overhang is supported by 6 steel bars which sit in notched out spaces in the cabinet so that counter sits flush on cabinet. The bars span the width of cabinets. I had a 2 level bar cut down to all countertop height. The raised bar granite counter sat on a pony wall that cabinets are attached to so we had a very sturdy structure to begin with. The bars were installed the same day the countertops were installed. You absolutely need the steel support bars or risk the island tipping over

Wait for the correct steel supports. Do it right the first time and you’ll enjoy that beautiful kitchen and stone for years to come.

please dont risk that gorgeous stone by not having it properly installed and supported - patience will pay off here for sure

Marie, we got ours at Granquartz. They have locations from TX to WA, and from MA to CA. They had plenty in stock. See if you can get lucky and find your supports. Good luck!

If you cannot get them in time you have no choice as you need steel supports, and technically your fabricator should refuse to install with adequate support.

Absolutely not.

Where did he look? You just need some steel flat pieces, screwed to the cross pieces of the cabinets.. Think out of the box for the same thing but called something else!

@lucky998877 any chance you can share a pic of how that overhang looks without pedestal supports? we're in the middle of deciding to go with brackets vs pedestal

I prefer finished side panels to support the slab. It makes it look less cluttered as it blocks some of the views where you see all the stool legs.
