I have to say those new floors would make me crazy IMO the red of the cherry would be much nicer than that really busy floor Sorry you could not give this to me to put anywhere. Why not look at LVP you can get some really good deals at big box stores just remeber to buy at least 2 more boxed than you think you need and if this is a new to you house IMO do not do flooring until you have decided you love evertything about the space as it is. I think both choices stand up well to kids and dogs but I think I would wait until you have lived in the house for awhile . Maybe just do the upsiars for now since grubby carpet needs to go anyway and probably the bedrooms are not going to change much over time.

Thanks, Patricia! I agree that the pattern is really busy which is one of the reasons I think I’ve been questioning it so much. We’ve been in the house since last summer and I am definitely sure I don’t like the floors (or the kitchen but that’s a different discussion haha). Thanks for the feedback, I might hold off on these and look for something a bit more natural. It was mostly the price and convenience that drew us to these.

We’re making this exact decision right now. Here are a few pics in our space. In addition to the floors looking busy (which is also why I’m hesitant) they seem shinier than other laminate or vinyl products we’ve looked at.

I think you will get many differing opinions. But I say, if it makes you feel good about your home, you made a good choice.

I LOVE those floors! I saw those at Costco too! I am a fan of wood and the grains. It provides elegance and richness, and natural. To me it doesn't look busy at all. But that is my opinion. My house has hardwood, and some pieces look darker than others in some spots. But I don't mind it.

@tozmo1 Thank you! We removed the cherry flooring but we have been very careful as we have taken it up so it can be repurposed. We are thinking of using a small amount in some way as a “feature” to the house on maybe a small wall or something - they are really pretty when they are sanded down. For the rest of the leftovers we will take them to Habitat Restore 😊. I have been extremely impressed with the durability. We left a cut piece of it outside during a huge rainstorm over a few days (2-3 inches of rain total). It was completely covered in water for well over 24 hours and it look absolutely perfect after we dried it off. It’s definitely kid and pet friendly.

So glad you are repurposing. I am all about donating to Habitat, but have you tried to sell it? Maybe you don't have much left after keeping some to repurpose, but that stuff is valuable.

My son did this same floor in his condo and I loved it so much I just bought 900 sq ft to do in my home in the mountains. It was such a relief to finally have a floor I liked. Mountain homes tend to have alot of wood features as does mine and trying to match up different species was hard. The color variations in this Hickory floor is perfect. I can hardly wait to get it installed. My son did his by himself (with some help from a female friend) and said it was really easy to install once you get past the first few rows.

Sarah, I would love to see more pictures of the floor! We bought this same floor to put in our new build, but we are still several months from being able to install it.

We are working on getting the rest installed and I will post more when we finish more rooms! It’s been a labor of love 😂. I will say we absolutely love it so far!!

Sarah, when you said you left a piece of flooring outside in a rainstorm, did you mean the Costco Millport Hickory laminate, or the old cherry wood flooring? We are leaning towards the Costco laminate in our new living room/kitchen/bathroom, but are concerned if it is really "waterproof" as claimed. We were under the impression that if any water got past the wear layer, it would swell and be ruined...

Does anyone know if this product has a wear rating? i cannot find it anywhere

@riantgirl So sorry that I am just now seeing this. We left the Millport Hickory outside! It was completely soaked and the piece that we left out was cut so it definitely didn’t have the protective coating on it - it was completely fine with zero signs of damage. I have been extremely impressed with the durability. We have four large dogs and three kids and we are not gentle in the least on these floors. I have yet to see a single scratch. Time will tell regarding the long term durability but for price we paid I don’t feel like we can complain!

Poplar and Fig, are you still happy with your Costco floors? I’m looking at them at the moment. First thought when I laid it on the present floor was… waaaay too busy. Not quite the contemporary look I was going for. But dang, that Costco price is just too hard to pass up! Many reviews on the Costco website complains of lack of waterproofing (even though Mohawk advertises it as such). Edges, or seams, swelling with mopping or pet puddles. Will this work in a kitchen, entry, bathroom?

Alley B - honestly we have had absolutely zero issues with water. Our kids are not gentle on the floors in the least but we have had zero warping, swelling, etc. We did have a little ding that happened in our kitchen (not sure what caused it) but it has also not warped or swelled- I bought a little kit from Lowe’s for Pergo floors to patch it. We elected not to put these in the bathrooms and laundry room because I am nervous that they won’t do well with all of the moisture even though they have done well with moisture so far. As far as the pattern goes I won’t lie - it is a little busy for me! But I would make the same decision over again because the price was so great and I feel comfortable with the Mohawk brand as far as toxicity/chemicals go. If money were no object we would have gone with a different floor but like you said, the price is great! If we stay in this house for longer than a few years we will probably put nicer floors in. For now though, I’m happy putting rugs down and working with the floors the way they are. If you are able to afford more and you are planning on staying in your house for a long time I would opt for something that’s not quite as busy. I will say that my husband absolutely loves the floors - the pattern will work if you make sure to not compete with it in your decor. Once we get our stairs and second story completed I will post more photos! It’s definitely been a work in progress since we are doing it all ourselves! 😂

Sarah thank you so much for this thread and especially the photos and discussions of the waterproof-ness. My wife and I are having the exact same discussions - we love the features of the product (tactile joint lines, thickness, scratch resistance, price) compared to HD's Life Proof but we're not sure we trust it with water and wonder if the pattern is too much. My actual question has to do with the quantity and scrap. If you don't mind can I ask how many square feet did you cover and what was your scrap rate ie: how much extra did you order and was it enough? We have 1900 sq ft. and want to get enough to cover with a little left over but not run short.

We are laying these floors down in the entire house room by room right now. So far I am extremely satisfied with the quality but time will be the true teller.

Tommy - my apologies for not seeing your comment sooner. I have not been on this platform much recently. We purchased an additional 20% for our house since we had not laid this type of floor before. It was more than enough! We have already returned quite a bit and Costco was wonderful about the return - we recently returned some past the 1 year mark and there was no issues with that whatsoever (some of our boxes were even opened and they still returned them). Our home is about 2400 square feet. I recently saw a less busy pattern in the store (granted it was more expensive than what we paid but it was still very reasonable) and it was lovely. I wouldn’t hesitate buying floors from Costco again since their return policy is so great. Good luck with your flooring project!

I think the millport hickory can honestly pull both warmer and cooler depending on what paint colors you pair with it. We have Ghost Pines by SW on our walls and I honestly feel like I wish I would have selected a different color. It can pull slightly purple depending on how the light hits it at different times of the day. We have Swiss Coffee in one of our rooms which is much more of a warm white and the floors look great against it. I really think the floors can pull both ways! We finally finished our fireplace (we limewashed it with Avorio White by Romabio) and I think it looks so great with the floors - excuse the cluttered shelves, this is the only photo I have currently if the fireplace :-). Here’s a photo so you can see the flooring against the fireplace texture.
