Design advice living area

last modified: 2 months ago

Hi all,

Recently we have made some changes to our living area. New colors, floor, paper, ...

I am happy with the result, however, I feel like something is missing. Also not sure if the furniture still fits the design.

I would like some opinions/suggestions. Thanks guys!

EDIT 06/2026

Hi all!

I know it's an old post but I wanted to show what we have done in the meanwhile with the rooms and ask voor input regarding wall decoration.

Do I get wall decoration and if I do, what?

Also, any other improvement tips are welcome.

You have two beautiful walls screaming for artwork! Those windows tho! Your home is very nice.

That sofa does not look comfortable is it? I like the look but the comfort would be an issue for me I am tall .I do not love the wall color behind the sofa I would much prefer a large piece of art there Please change the bulbs in the DR fixture to LED 4000K

Would you consider changing the rug in the dining room to something more modern or simple? Maybe instead of pattern you can do texture as the rugs focal point. Maybe a rug in the living room to bring the seating area together, to cozy or warm it up .

Look at your dining area and try to bring some elements into the living room. In the dining area you have visual and tactile texture, furnishing height variance, visual pattern and color variance that all work together. Living room, the flat weave gray sofa does not work with the coffee au lait color wall. Said wall needs some art work or maybe in one area some wall mounted shelves for extra dimension. The long bench area under the windows can use a couple of bench cushions and styling your artifacts as groups to tell a story, group your plants in one area near windows. Have fun with this.

(You have the perfect accessory…your darling Westie!)

Yes indeed, they need artwork. Was not sure to go for paintings or canvas or something like

About the sofa, it is very comfy :) We are not that tall and we can lie down with two persons very comfortable.

The rug in the living are is indeed quite busy, can consider changing that.

The grouping of the plants and artifacts is a great tip.

    Not changing the westie!!

I love art as in alarge canvas in a picture you love I use the art in my house to drive all the color choices since we own only pieces of art we both love . Do not change the Westie for sure. If you are not into original art then I like Art.com decent prices and a good selection of sizes and BTW if the sofa is comfy for you I see no reason to change it . BTW I would do solar dhades on those window automated and in 10% dark color either charcoal or bronze the darker the shade color the better the view through them

Good job on the improvements. I love that orange color! Just add accessories to finish the job.

Oh wauw Emily, those are some great ideas. Like the paintings and the shelves.

Have to check some local shops if they have anything like that. Thanks!

Local shops are great. Etsy might be another place to look if you don’t find anything locally.
