What a great sofa! Yes I think you should be able to cover those--essentially, you'll be making slipcovers for each cushion.

Agree with Fori. Slipcovers are a great way to achieve a new look. This lady’s site is a good resource. https://slipcovermaker.com/diy-box-cushion-cover-tutorials/

yes exactly! slip covers for each cushion that looks as is. is there any concern you would see the piping through the new box cushion? would have to ensure the corners are pretty tight! any recommendations where to find foam? looking at foam by mail but have been digging around and not finding the best reviews. also got 2 local quotes that were well over $1,000

I would remove the covers and make new ones. I've made lots of box cushions. If the foam is in good shape, you can reuse it. I've used both foamorder.com and foamonline.com. when I've needed new foam. Excellent tutorials at Sailrite. Box cushion

thank you for the helpful resources! yes, sailrite is where i found the 30 minute box cushion tutorial and they have beautiful fabric!! i guess my idea here is to not remove the existing cushions and just create a slip cover to cover the cushion as is. and was hoping the cover fits okay around the existing cover with the piping. i don’t want to take the foam out of these in order to preserve the authenticity of the sofa

My upholsterer would not make slip covers for cushions like this because he said the piping would show through and they would not be quite as tailored looking as they could be , and he used the same cushions.

Some old piping is sort of mushy and won't show through a cover. (I'm sitting on an example.) You might be able to wrap them snugly with batting to reduce the impact of the piping, too. Experiment!

I guess the existing covers don't just zip off to go live in a closet or something? :)

Fori would you mind sending a photo if you made covers for your existing cushions? :D The sofa was my fiance's grandparents and want to preserve the authenticity and history since it is staying in the family! <3

Does foam online have good reviews?
