i thought it was cool when it first appeared in the garden and regretted not pulling it couple years later

I always let a few patches grow around the backyard for the bumblebees and the hummingbirds. It's also the food plant for a cool little day-flying moth called the "White-Striped Black".

Needs regular rainfall to thrive - if the summer is too dry, most of the patches in my yard wilt and die out.

Omg, I have a love-hate relationship with this! I maintain an extremely wet garden for someone, and it...is....everywhere! On one hand I don't mind it because it is native, and the big swaths of it along the edge of the woods is better than weeds or invasives, but it's a yearly battle to keep it out of the more cultivated areas. It is very easy to pull, but just another thing to have to keep on top of. That being said, I do kind of like the look of it (if it would only stay where I want it to lol) and if I grab poison ivy by mistake, as I have on a few occasions, I will immediate break open a stem of jewelweed to rub on my hands. Can't guarantee it works, but I have never gotten poison ivy from working in this garden!

This photo is of some boneset that suddenly appeared one year and I needed to ID it, but you can see all the jewelweed in just this small part of this garden. Some of it is taller than I am (i.e. some of that stuff in the back!)

Not sure I would actively propagate it for a cultivated garden...

I agree with everyone else...a lovely plant but it doesn't belong in a tamed landscape.

Of course, I'm considering it's close cousin (I pallida) for introduction in mine...I've not grown it, and it's not as common in my area, and I will probably regret it as I did with capensis (lol).

I’m so glad I posted this here, thanks everyone for letting me know how agressive of a spreader it is.

It has remained in its one spot over the past 4-5 years(next to the blue spruce) so I had assumed it was a well behaved plant, but after reading all the posts here, I won’t bring it in my garden beds!
