European White Oak installation dilemma!

Hi all. I’m remodeling my house and will have 3,400sq ft of Boen White Oak engineered planks installed throughout the home. An installer came to my house to give me an estimate and noticed a potential issue. The base rail is beveled, so if we butt the planks to the base, it will look silly and unprofessional. Since the base and wood is 3/4in thick, he can cut the planks at an angle to kind of cover the bevel… but I don’t think it’ll come out looking good, especially at the curved part. I was thinking to pull out the base rail and install the flooring, and then install the base back on top of the floor. But that’s a lot of work, and at that point it might be better to just redo the whole rail system. I would need to paint or stain to match the new flooring anyway. Any ideas?

You need to remove the top layer of subfloor to make the new floor height even with the nosing height.

After pulling out the carpet and foam, the new floor is perfectly even with the nosing. They are both 3/4 inch. The problem is that the nosing, or base rail, has a beveled edge, and the floor has a flat edge. Butting the floor to the base rail would look silly and create a dirt trap

Cut tge bevel off of the nosing.

Is it possible for the carpenter to cut the bevel off of the curved part of the rail and maintain its curve without looking wavy? And then install the wood next to it, cut with the same curvature? The reason I ask here instead of the carpenter, is because in Florida people will say anything to get the job, then botch it and demand payment

They can set up routing jig if there is room for a router. Or you can carve it out with a scraper and sand it.

G&S has a good idea, The straight sections could probably be cut with a circular saw but the curve would require some skill.

Another idea would be to paint the base piece and have a thin piece of trim cover where they meet the floor, painted to match the base. The curved piece could use a piece of bendable trim, which is generally made from vinyl or rubber. We have used bendable baseboard cut on a table saw to fabricate custom profile moldings
