Keep the trim/cabinetry through out the house all the same color. Since you are basically painting for re-sale white is your best bet. Wood or white are your most universally chosen for cabinetry so I would stick to that. Sage is the new 2022 color I hear.

Thank you!! To clarify, I also really don’t want to make it sterile looking , that is a high priority. How will the all-white look, especially if bright white? These are low grade cabinets with a bad paint job and they will likely be removed by the next person.

There are scads of whites. Considering the nice tans in the floor tile, you might like Benjamin Moore (BM) White Dove or BM Ivory White. Is the dishwasher staying or being replaced with stainless? If you paint it all white (walls, cabinets, ceiling), it becomes more cohesive and calm and, as a bonus, the painters should have it done in no time. Choose an eggshell for easy cleanup.

We painted our kitchen cabinets Revere Pewter while waiting to do a full kitchen remodel and loved it! It would look very nice with your white appliances and trim but you would need to put a sample next to your countertops to make sure it works with them.

I would do the cabinets in white, and put a color on the walls. Maybe a light sage green, or a light bluegreen (aqua). Try to match the white of the appliances with the white you choose for cabinets

Can you post a close up of the countertops? Is the veining more of a taupe or grey? I actually think the cabinets are super cute and would go for a more taupey-cream color like sherwin williams accessible beige. I think it would go well with the countertops. I would do white on the walls but something warmer like benjamin moore white dove. i am not a fan of color on kitchen walls.

A lot of votes for a form of white in that space, and I assume that means it wouldn't be too much white. Follow ups for anyone who would like to comment:

Would anyone do darker bottoms and white on top? That has been a trend but may be dated. I like the revere pewter thought @mojavemaria, and am brainstorming. We are concerned not to let the kitchen go too dark as there's not a lot of natural light there.

I do like the idea of softer white, like @N Johnson is suggesting, and also we want to keep the kitchen fresh looking. Changing the whites seems like we would have to paint all the trim that shade of white, not just in kitchen but into hallway, including three doors (small bathroom, side entry interior, and closet door), baseboards and crown molding, all these in the hallway/entry area. Would you change all of that trim out? And we would still have the white appliances, we are not changing, We were thinking of Greek Villa, but that may veer a bit too warm/would look off vs. appliances.

We are looking at Sagey for walls, @cat_ky, it is quite light, 'a wisp of a color' as someone said to me, and counters are relatively light too. We liked Greek Villa with Sagey, it is slightly softer than the trim, a few drops of gold they say. But then you make a good point about the appliances.

Soft Sage would look good on cabinets

Not a great mockup, but here is SW Greek Villa on the cabinets, ceiling, and trim. You can do different sheens, like flat on the ceiling and satin on the trim. I used SW Sea Salt on the walls. I added a ss dw, but that is optional.

I think this is a wonderful combination. I admit I am a little biased, since I have almost this exact combo in my kitchen/dining/living room. It is in my bathroom too. Did I mention I love it? 😄 Every other color seems to go with it, so it almost works like a neutral. Imho, it is universally liked, so would even be good for resale down the road.

BM Simply White is a popular color for cabinets.

There are family members who want to have more than neutrals in the kitchen. It's not a high end home and hasn't been kept up. Replacing flooring and painting is good first step. I want caregivers to enjoy being in the space.

I still would go all white. It looks CLEAN and you can see what needs to be cleaned when something has spilled. You could get bright NEW dishtowels, trivets and hot pads — and It looks like you have a few other colorful things. Oh, and you should find a large clock so everyone stays on schedule. The caregivers would appreciate more outlets (looking at the multiple plugs in your last photo). It’s not too hard to change a 2-gang to a 4-gang (or so my electrician told me) and I think they should be GFCI. Check the lighting in the space and make sure it’s bright enough. Is that a table and chairs in the background? Make sure that’s accessible. You won’t have as much work to do when the situation changes and the house needs to be sold. White lets buyers imagine what they’d do. Gray or green or something else might make a less experienced buyer say ick — they’re hard to figure.
