Looks like one to me. J have several on my property. At their peak of flowering the flowers smell like warm flour tortillas. Delicious!

^ Ah yes, I did notice it had a fairly strong, sort of sickly sweet (in a good way) fragrance...the branches were just up too high for me to smell them closely.

Also look at the bark and branches to see if theyre silver and kind of striped. If so then its definitely a Mex Plum

Maybe Dogwood?

The pictured tree is clearly a Prunus, not a Cornus. Five petals and prominent stamens for starters.
