If it were my house, I'd get rid of both the spirals. They are badly sited, don't suit the character of the house and have not been maintained very well.

Where are you located (closest big city name) so we know what other plant suggestions may work for you? Can you alter the bed shape where the topiaries are located? I'd pull it out to the base of the steps and in a straight line. It will provide slightly more room to plant and the wiggly outline looks kind of silly in that context.

@gardengal48 Im in New Jersey. Unfortunatley the pavers of the flowerbed have cement in between and they go all around the perimeter of house. I do agree the spirals may not suit but not sure what will?

I would definitely try to get rid of the wiggly edge. It really does detract severely from the garden. A sharp bash with a lump hammer and a little crow bar effort should do it. I doubt they have deep foundations. If you can maintain the spirals properly and you like them I’d keep them but move one so they flank the door. And I’d definitely get some bannisters on those stairs, especially if you get rain or ice. They are potentially dangerous.
