My Helebores are blooming as well, but as you noted they hang their heads, so I am not a big fan of the blooms. But they grow in a tough, droughty spot under a tree and the foliage is at least green, so they stay. I didn't know they had ones with upright faces now. When they show photos of them in the advertisements they always show them as if the face is looking at the camera, not the cameraman is laying on the ground taking the photo......I love your white daf with the long cup. Somewhere I think I still have a site to identify narcissus if you care that much. My small dafs (Tete e tete) are just starting to bloom. I do like Daffodils quite a bit and enjoyed seeing yours..............Maryl

Maryl, That's the same reason I keep mine. Nothing else will grow there. Yes, there are hybrids that face up.

Yes, that is a daffodil; it's a double flowering variety ... maybe 'Telamonius Plenus', but don't quote me on that.

It is a very old variety, I have some of those. Not my favorites. As you say, messy, mine most years have a lot of green. Some people seem to like the green. Not me. I will look and see if I can find the name of it. Mine was not Telamonius Plenus, but then perhaps the person who originally gave it to me was wrong.

Thanks for the answers! I don't really like it either. Every year I dig a bunch up and every year there is more because they often don't bloom and I don't know which is which. This year more are blooming than every so maybe I can get rid of most of them.

I like daffodils too but they can be ground hogs like iris. I dug a bunch out the last two seasons because they spread too close to my daylilies.

Kate: Those are pretty dafs, especially the 2nd one. You are lucky you have room to have them. It's their ripening foliage that takes so long to complete dying back that makes them scarce in my small garden, but as I said I do like them.......Maryl

Yes, Maryl, that dying foliage is an eyesore for a long time! Many of my clumps are in my flower beds but mole transportation has relocated many of them to other areas of the yard. I also have a long line of them bordering my driveway. The mower who lives with me is very good to let them die back although they are ugly-you know how fast our grass grows when it gets warm!

That second photo is Ice King and they are huge and beautiful-the double of Ice Follies, the first photo.

I do enjoy them and love having bouquets of these harbingers of spring!!

Pretty pictures that herald that Spring is on the way! Hard rain last week beat down my Ice Follies just as they were hitting their stride. I've got some later blooming large yellow daffs. Maybe they'll fare better.

Brad, here is my messy daffodil. The ice and snow last week beat it down so the bloom has not recovered to ”look up”. The bottom one has more green than you can see in this photo.

My bluebells are the same: they spread and spread. This year I am going to have to move a bunch out as they are encroaching on the daylilies.

I am not a fan of the double daffodils, but love the single ones. We planted a bunch last fall and can't wait to see some here. We have a few with buds coming up now. We also have a hellebore too. If it flowers, it will be its first year. I can't remember what color we bought.

I like doubles, IF, the stems support the flower. With spring winds, all too often, the flowers are too heavy and end up on the ground.

We have iris and a daffodil in bloom today.
