seeds require a certain length of soil temps to trigger seed growth ... in other words.. the soil has to warm enough to trigger such .. in spring... the first inch or 2 of soil .. where the seeds are. ... can lose all heat back to night sky .. so things on the surface might be a bit slower .. than things with deeper roots ...

established perennials usually start showing signs of life earlier than seedlings ... in my z5 MI anyway ...

of course.. that begs the question of whether your plants are fertile.. rather than sterile..im too lazy to look that up for you ... maybe you know ... off hand ....

Magnus is a selecion of E purpurea and capable of self seeding, but

they need open soil and

are slug magnets.

A perennial gardener at the nursery where I tend to order from told me that most E purpurea cultivars are propagated by tissue culture because they can produce large numbers of plants,

and they all should be able to self seed. I have a mottley collection of different purpurea cultivars and do find few seedlings

some of them . in joints between paving slabs/ stones or in tge veggie patch

and I think they will take some time to grow to a size you would actually notice, at least a season
