36" Transitional Induction Range and Counter Height Difference

3 years ago

Need some advice from experts here.

So our base cabinets are 34.5 inches tall and the counter top is 2 cm (~ 0.75 inches) thick. We have ordered a Wolf transitional induction range which (according to the website) is 35.5 inches tall.

With the range being transitional style it is supposed to be level with the countertop BUT with our cabinets and the countertop it only adds up to 35.25 inches — i am thinking there will be a .25 inch height difference. Am i missing something?

    It’s fine. Better higher than lower, which would be a fire hazard..

    "Leveling

    Raise the range to its desired height by adjusting the front legs and rear casters. Use a 3/4" socket to adjust the rear casters. The front legs can be adjusted by rotating the leg clockwise to raise and counterclockwise to lower."

    @Raja Saab -

    Best to check with your vendor, your installer, &/or Wolf Customer support to find out whether those casters and feet can be adjusted lower or if the 35½" height is as low as they go. The wording of Wolf's "Installation Guide" (linked in the post above) sounds like the adjustments are limited to your being able to "raise the range to [a] desired height" and then leveling it there rather than lowering it further than the shipped height.

    @User

    Can you be more specific about what the fire hazard is for an induction appliance as opposed to something with gas burners? It could be helpful to those considering flush-mount models of induction cooktops.

    We recently installed that model and our final height is 35.5" for the range and counters. I just took a close look at the front legs and it looks like it has some play to be adjusted down, but can't say by how much. Does your local appliance store have one in their showroom that you could check?

    It would not look good sitting below the counter.

    many thanks for all the responses.

    @Joseph Corlett, LLC -- thanks! i read that in the document after you pointed it out

    @jwvideo -- I reached out to Wolf and they said that according to the notes they have the range wont go lower than 35.5 INches. BUT the lady at the other end of the call wasnt sounding too confident in her response.

    @chispa -- thats encouraging. I am looking for just a quarter inch! hopefully it has that play. THere are no models on display anywhere to see (atleast in our area - Northern VA)

    So our Range is not going to be delivered until Aug. Our reno work has begun - so bottom line is that if i cannot adjust it down by a 1/4 inch then it will be higher by that much on the counter.

    @chispa .-- may i please request you to take a closer look at the adjustment on your range? I am striking out from everywhere.

    As shown on page 111 of the Wolf Design Guide, the height of the range is adjustable between 35-1/2" and 38". The Frigidaire Professional PCFI3668AF can be as low as 35-3/16".

    @Raja Saab, I just took a closer look at the front legs and although the range is level and the right leg has 1/4" play to be lowered, when I looked at the left leg, it had no room to be lowered ... it seems my new floor under the range wasn't 100% level or the range is tight in the opening and they managed to level it with the current adjustments.

    The range will be moved out a few feet when I get the backsplash installed, but that won't be for a few months as I still have to make a decision on what I want!

    @chispa many thanks for the effort! helps a lot!

    Documenting our solution for posterity :)

    We are going to raise the cabinets on a 3/4 inch high frame. This will give us the 3/4 Inch (Frame) + 34 1/2 (Cabinets) + 3/4 Inch (countertop) for a grand total of 36 Inches!!

    Many thanks all for the suggestions and help!

    "We are going to raise the cabinets on a 3/4 inch high frame. This will give us the 3/4 Inch (Frame) + 34 1/2 (Cabinets)..."

    Toekicks are wide enough to cover the 3/4" additional space between the cabinet bottoms and floor, correct? Note that dishwashers are around 34" tall. You'll have a 1-1/4" gap between the dishwasher door and countertop unless the dishwasher has legs that allow it to be raised.

    all worked out perfectly @wdccruise - good tip on the dishwasher. Raised it too on the 1/2 ply.

    all told - final height 35 7/8” which is perfect for what we wanted. pics below.

    thank you all for the wisdom and advice!
